radio for the retina
a dream to me 22 x 34 inches acrylic on canvas 2011
Today's post is a non objective abstract painting that I recently finished. It is the first finished piece of a series based on poetic ideas that mainly come from song lyrics. I like to think of these as radio for the retina. I have two others almost done, and several more still in the sketchbook. I am kind of excited about these.

Island Music and Tiki
Island Music 22 x 30 inches acrylic on canvas 2011
This tiki painting is inspired by 1960s travel brochures. I love the 1960s illustrators and the modern look they aspired to create. It took me forever to finish this one, it is very graphic and flat, so I had to painstakingly paint several careful coats over each area.....not to mention keep the lines fairly straight.
Aloha Tiki People!.......and you know who you are....:)

Autumn Oaks
Autumn Oaks 8 x10 inches 2009
This should be more like late summer in South Texas rather than Autumn. The heat of the day is still in the mid 90s and the humidity is...ughhh gross! But the calendar says it is mid September and for most of the United States this is indeed the onset of fall. For us.... , we cant wait until November......then maybe it will cool down a bit.

Cowboy Boot
Cowboy Boot 16 x 20 inches acrylic on canvas 2011
An appropriate first painting for the new San Antonio studio. What is funny though, I had started this in Houston long before we were thinking about moving out here to cowboy heaven. That said, still it was put away and almost abandoned until I resurrected it in the new studio. Yippie Ki Yay Yay.....Get along little doggies...or actually I like the way Bruce Willis said it in Die Hard.
